Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer, the Sir William and Lady Stevenson professor of ophthalmology at Auckland University and chair of Glaucoma New Zealand, is the first New Zealander to be invited to give the international keynote address at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’s (ASCRS) Glaucoma Day.

ASCRS’ Glaucoma Day, presented at the annual conference by the ASCRS Glaucoma Clinical Committee is designed to provide cutting-edge guidance for expanding glaucoma treatment options and improving patient outcomes. Falling well within that remit, Prof Danesh-Meyer’s talk focused on the reason neuroprotection strategies have universally failed for glaucoma treatment and what the necessary ingredients are for successful neuronal rescue in glaucoma.
