Platinum sponsor Bausch + Lomb (B+L) took the opportunity at O=Mega19 to launch its much-awaited new Ultra for astigmatism contact lens

“We are excited to launch Ultra for astigmatism, which goes up to a -2.75 cyl, 10⁰ around the clock,” said B+L representative, Radiant Health’s Yvette Beattie. “Ultra helps maintain 95% of lens moisture for a full 16 hours.”

According to the product literature, Ultra for astigmatism also features B+L’s innovative OpticAlign design, offering stable, consistently clear vision and spherical aberration control optimised in both axes to help reduce halos and glare. Company studies show the lens offered the convenience of same-day fitting during initial lens exams, with the speed of fitting rated as excellent or very good for 92% of patients. Practitioners also reported rotation at dispensing of 5⁰ or less for 94% of patients, while a high 93% of patients agreed the lens helped reduce halos and glare, even in low light.

Ultra for astigmatism is available from this month, said Beattie, while the next member of the family, the new Ultra multifocal for astigmatism - lauded to be the first and only multifocal toric lens available as a standard offering in the eye care professional’s fit set - has just been launched in the US and should reach this part of the world by late next year.
