Vӕrk, a new Fleye brand launched at Silmo Paris, means “artwork” or “handcrafted” in Danish and is consists of four frames made using lightweight acetate, carbon, wood and stainless steel.

When designing the minimalist collection, the team had a clear focus on engineering and attention to detail. The interlocking hinge mechanism, developed in collaboration with two Danish industrial designers, is designed without any screws. The frames also have adjustable temples, which are easy for dispensing opticians to adjust for their patients.

Nordic Light

Fleye’s Nordic Light collection was also launched at Silmo Paris. It is inspired by the brand’s Danish heritage and the soft, translucent Nordic light captured by the Skagen painters (a colony of artists active in the northernmost part of Denmark in the late 19th Century).

Fleye’s Elise Hoang was at Silmo and was happy to share how the collection came about. “We wanted to create our own artwork, drawing inspiration from these paintings. We started to experiment with different product; mixing gelatine, condensed milk and coloured paste, and then tried to play with the colours, contrast and light from the pictures,” she said. “You can see the results best in the acetate frames, made of two layers of acetate with a middle layer of titanium and at the top, acetate, carbon wood and beta titanium.”

“The new collection sums up what Fleye is all about beautifully; we always do the whole process from the inspiration and the drawings trhough to the end product. The Scandinavian touch really shows,” Hoang said.
