Good Citizens: trash to specs

Thanks to eight year-old Harry Robinson and a successful Kickstarter campaign, Good Citizens is turning plastic trash into sunglasses.

On a mission to do something beyond picking up plastics from the beach, Aussie Harry and his dad Nick set up an online campaign for project funding to create sunnies from 100% recycled plastic bottles. Within minutes, they had raised AU$20,000 and Good Citizens was born.

The father and son team used the capital to make their waste recycling dreams a reality, with one 600ml single-use plastic bottle making one pair of glasses, including hinges. The frames come in two unisex shapes and are currently available in cola, lemonade and aqua colours - only the lenses, polarised or non-polarised, are new.

Over 700 pairs of Good Citizens sunnies have been sold to date. What’s more, the Robinsons have partnered with a non-government organisation to remove another 45 plastic bottles from the ocean for every pair sold.
