Masks required for Victoria optometrists

Optometry Australia (OA) has advised its Victorian members to wear surgical masks in their practices at all times and consider improved ventilation to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

The move follows Victorian Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) recommendation for all healthcare workers across the state to wear level 1 or type 1 disposable surgical mask in public-facing areas, particularly where adequate social distancing is not possible, in the wake of the surge in community spread and mounting evidence for airborne transmission of Covid-19.

Patients and optical dispensers should also wear face masks, “as appropriate to their potential exposure and patient interactions” as per the DHHS’ direction, said OA
