Optometry Australia (OA) has advised its Victorian members to wear surgical masks in their practices at all times and consider improved ventilation to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
The move follows a Victorian Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) recommendation for all healthcare workers across the state to wear level 1 or type 1 disposable surgical mask in public-facing areas, particularly where adequate social distancing is not possible, in the wake of the surge in community spread and mounting evidence for airborne transmission of Covid-19.
Patients and optical dispensers should also wear face masks, “as appropriate to their potential exposure and patient interactions” as per the DHHS’ direction, said OA.
