VR training lowers cataract surgery risks

VR training significantly reduced cataract surgery complications reported a UK study.

Published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, the study showed a 38% reduction in posterior capsule ruptures in surgeries performed by first and second year trainee surgeons, compared with 10 years ago. Data was gathered from more than 17,800 cataract operations, performed by 265 trainees before and after the introduction of Eyesi Surgical virtual reality simulator for intraocular surgery training in 2009.
