Glasgow-based optometry tech firm IbisVision is looking to raise £5m (NZ$9.4m) in the US to fund the roll out of its technology internationally.

Designed to support remote monitoring and examination IbisVision’s platform runs a number of tests, including 24-2 visual field, Amsler grid, Ishihara colour vision and visual acuity. The technology allows optometrists to treat a wider range of patients, who may otherwise find it a challenge to visit a practice, due to illness, mobility or location, said the company.

The company has partnered with Scotland’s Forth Valley National Health Service district to develop its interactive telemedicine software, Ibis-Connect, for schools and patients’ homes, and is targeting optometry businesses and ophthalmology providers throughout the county. In India, its technology is incorporated into 150 Pulse Diagnostics booths dotted throughout the country's transport network. “Telemedicine is a key component in the modernisation of health provision, as it enables initial assessment, triage and referral decisions to be made by a specialist clinician over video connection… It allows tests to be carried out no matter where the patient is; all they need is access to a computer or laptop and an internet connection,” said the company.

In early April 2022, IbisVision accompanied its investment partner Compiler VC to the US to talk with investors with access to more than US$25bn. Commenting, CEO Mark Roger said, “While Glasgow born and bred, we have global ambitions and you cannot be a global business without a significant footprint in the US.”
