Having delayed the company’s European push because of Covid, the British eyewear designer and manufacturer Eyespace debuted at Silmo 2022, unveiling its first optical range for Range Rover and previewing optical and sun ranges for its other licensed brands, Land Rover and Aspinal of London.

“We are aiming to become a house of British brands as we have a really strong design language and we work very closely with the brands’ in-house design teams,” said Eyespace’s Ryan James. “With Land Rover and Range Rover, for example, our designs are not inspired by the vehicles, they are designed alongside the vehicles. Our design team actually goes into the studio where the vehicles are being developed.”

Though Eyespace has trialled some Range Rover optical frames over the past year, this is the first time it has introduced a full range of 40 frames to the open market. The men’s collection unites technically advanced materials with contemporary frame design, said James. “Premium Japanese titanium and the finest Mazzucchelli acetate are meticulously sculpted into sophisticated minimalist lines. The aesthetic is unmistakably aligned to the exceptional luxury of each vehicle, translated in distinguished masculine colourways with super-lightweight construction and unparalleled comfort.”

The decision to introduce a full optical range for Range Rover was influenced by the success of Land Rover, he said. “To see men across the world wanting to wear these frames, to us, is a triumph of design; it’s what sells the frames and that’s why people want to drive the vehicles.”

New Zealand and Australia were early to embrace Eyespace and the company’s brands, both licensed and in-house, including Cocoa Mint for women, Jensen for men and Rock Star for children, and especially its award-winning Eco-Conscious Eyewear collection. Sustainability remains core to the company’s design ethos, said James. Eyespace was the first company to win the UK optical industry’s award for sustainability after it eliminated single-use plastic packaging, supplied frames with biodegradable demo lenses and, where possible, incorporated bioacetate and recycled or reclaimed materials in its frames, he said. “We are the UK’s leading mainstream supplier for eco-friendly eyewear, with 20% of products across all brands now fully sustainable, with the number rapidly growing year-on-year.”
