Abdullah Almajed, from Saudi Arabia’s King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, has won Professional Photo of the Year in the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness’ (IAPB) World Sight Day photo competition.
Almajed’s winning image, ‘We love our eyes’, shows two boys laughing after their eye examinations – part of a World Sight Day screening initiative.
‘Post-op visual test’, by Nepal’s Namkhen Lama, was the winning amateur shot. Lama’s photograph shows patients at 4,000m above sea level having their visual acuity checked following cataract surgery.

The competition, part of the #LoveYourEyes, World Sight Day campaign, attracted 600 submissions from around the world that captured the impact of sight-loss and the importance of ensuring everyone, everywhere has access to the eyecare they need, said Courtenay Holden, IAPB head of communications and campaigns. “These photos truly celebrate World Sight Day, and the spirit of ‘Love Your Eyes’ reflects our shared commitment to eyecare for all.”
