Recently introduced to the New Zealand market, Azul Optics’ MPeye measures macular pigmentation for preventative care of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The volume and density of macular pigmentation has been linked to the development of AMD as people with low macular pigmentation density are more susceptible to damage from high-energy visible (HEV) light, said Corneal Lens Corporation (CLC) product specialist Alan Benjamin. “The MPeye is currently the only screening tool available for developing macular degeneration. It’s easy to use, it’s compact and the test only takes about three minutes to complete. A low score indicates the patient is at greater risk of developing AMD and opens up conversations about diet and other lifestyle factors the patient can improve to reduce the risk of AMD.”
