Taking pride of place on Designs for Vision (DFV) stand in the exhibitor hall of the RANZCO NZ conference was Optotek’s new OptoSLT nano, a selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) device for non-invasive, primary or secondary treatment of raised intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma.

The OptoSLT uses short laser pulses of a specific wavelength to selectively target pigmented trabecular meshwork cells without causing widespread thermal damage, said DFV’s Ralph Thompson. “It’s small and compact, designed to be easily portable. Ophthalmologists can pack the laser into a small suitcase and transport it to a different clinic with minimal effort.”

The OptoSLT nano is equipped with a new laser technology superior to existing SLT devices on the market, he added. “It offers very high pulse to pulse stability (±2.5%). By reducing laser pulse duration to 1ns without compromising outcomes, this new technology permits faster and safer SLT procedures.”
