The International Myopia Institute (IMI) has released a second set of myopia white papers to support continued education, research and management of myopia to help combat the growing myopia epidemic.

“The original IMI 2019 white papers helped change the way clinicians thought of myopia – as an ocular condition versus a purely refractive issue. The latest IMI 2021 white papers continue to build on the evidence base for implementing myopia management,” said Assistant Professor Monica Jong, IMI executive director. “Collaboration between all eyecare stakeholders is the key to advancing research, awareness and making clinical management affordable and accessible to all children with myopia.” This year’s white paper chairs include:

  • IMI 2021 Reports and Digest: reflections on the implications for clinical practice – Prof James Wolffsohn, Aston University, UK
  • Impact of myopia - Prof Padmaja Sankaridurg, Brien Holden Vision Institute
  • Environmental risk factors in myopia – Prof Ian Morgan, Australian National University
  • Accommodation and binocular vision in myopia development and progression – Prof Nicola Logan, Aston University, UK
  • Pathologic myopia – Prof Kyoko Ohno-Matsui, Tokyo Medical and Dental University
  • Prevention of myopia and its progression – Prof Jost Jonas, Heidelberg University
  • IMI Yearly Digest 2021– A/Prof Monica Jong, University of Canberra, and Prof Earl Smith, University of Houston

The white papers are available in a special issue of Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science (IOVS): https://iovs.arvojournals.org/issues.aspx?issueid=938527
