Researchers from Ireland and Australia presented a poster about their online calculator to simplify tracking low ocular perfusion pressure (OPP), a risk factor for progression of glaucomatous optic neuropathies.
The poster, by Drs Brian Woods, University of Galway, and Pádraig O'Connell, Perth’s Peel Health Campus, explained the OPP calculator uses the patient’s blood pressure (BP) and intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements to estimate OPP, using definitions from the American Association of Ophthalmology. “OPP takes into account the roles played by both BP and IOP in optic nerve head perfusion and may be a better measure than IOP alone in the assessment of glaucomatous optic neuropathies,” they wrote.
