Just one month after receiving CE and TGA approval, Microclear Medical’s Sky whole-eye imaging technology took pride of place on Ophthalmopro’s stand at RANZCO 2025.
This is the first, fully automated system combining ultra widefield (UWF) and OCT imaging of the back of the eye and the front of the eye, replacing up to four different technology systems with just one, said Ophthalmopro’s managing director Nikolas Apostolou. “To date there's been cameras that do it, there's been OCTs that do it, but this is the first one that combines both.”
The Sky system integrates more than 10 imaging modalities, including swept-source OCT; UWF retinography with RGB confocal SLO; UWF blue and green autofluorescence; IR, blue and green UWF; and FFA and ICG UWF.
“Integrating SLO confocal and SS-OCT technology, SKY combines the capabilities of an RGB colour UWF imaging system, confocal laser angiography, dual autofluorescence with ultra-wide and ultra-deep anterior and posterior tomographic imaging in a single revolutionary system, allowing simultaneous imaging, said Microclear. “With a single acquisition the specialist can obtain UWF colour images (28 mm wide) and ultra-deep (SS-OCT at 9 mm) scans… and change the field of view in a single acquisition by 135°, 90°, 45° or 8° without changing lenses while maintaining the same retinal resolution.”
Offering comprehensive diagnosis, treatment planning and early detection, the diagnostic potential contained in this single compact and ergonomic instrument is just incredible, said Apostolou. “Not only are practitioners blown away by what it actually does, but how it does it. The automation mode is second to none.”
