Andrew Merlino has become Macular Degeneration New Zealand’s (MDNZ’s) new fundraising manager.
Since MDNZ receives no government funding, this role is absolutely critical for keeping the lights on and enabling provision of sight-saving services and support, said general manager Sarah Berman. “Andrew’s role is to tell MDNZ’s story and the stories of those we serve, so that donors are moved to help make a positive difference in the lives of people at risk of and living with macular degeneration.”
Having juggled the fundraising and general manager roles since September 2022, Berman said she is delighted to have Merlino join the team. “Andrew brings best-practice fundraising knowledge and experience, as well as strategic thinking to the role. He has already identified some new ideas that we are looking to implement. He is fitting in really well in our small and busy team.”
With six years’ experience of working for larger charities, Merlino said he is enjoying the challenge of fundraising for a cause that is more specialised and specific. “I place a lot of importance on health for myself and my sons, so I’m grateful to be working in a team that’s empowering older people to live healthy lives.”
