With more than a decade in senior leadership roles in the group, Michele Ginocchietti is the new head of EssilorLuxottica ANZ, replacing Matteo Accornero, who has moved to the role of general manager at Vision Source and SVP of US Doctor Alliances.

Commenting on Ginocchietti’s appointment, EssilorLuxottica said he is an experienced business leader with a strong academic background. His professional career spans technological innovation, operational excellence, commercial strategy and the luxury fashion sector.

Ginocchietti said he is excited to embark on this new chapter. “This is a key region for the group and I am keen to contribute my expertise to its continued growth. Our industry is on the verge of a profound transformation and EssilorLuxottica is committed to leading this change through innovation that creates tangible value for both our partners and consumers.”

Leveraging opportunities across the group’s core pillars – eyewear, vision care, audiology, wearables and med-tech – will be essential to capitalise on the region's potential, he said. “To succeed, we must evolve together and anticipate market shifts: building new capabilities, embracing innovation, and confidently adopting new ways of working across every facet of our business, all while firmly championing our independent business partners.”

With a PhD in industrial engineering from Italy’s University of Perugia and a background in the automotive industry, Ginocchietti joined the group in 2014 as Luxottica global wholesale sales development director. After relocating to Hong Kong and then Shanghai, he held several senior roles over the next seven years, driving business growth and reinforcing the group’s market leadership in Greater China.
